PLEASE NOTE: Rotary International in Great Britain & Ireland (RIBI) is an Association of private clubs, members of which abide by the Constitution and By-laws of the Association, and by the Constitution of their own club.
Club members, as stated in the RIBI Club Constitution, should be "adult persons of good character and good business, professional and/or community reputation" and agree to uphold high moral and ethical standards in their "personal, business and community life" as well as in their interaction with other people generally.
Please note that "membership of a club is by invitation only, at the discretion of the members." It is important, therefore, that you take time to visit your prospective club on a few occasions to ensure not only that you get to know its members and that you will feel happy being part of the club, but also that you give its members a chance to get to know you.
Our Club has introduced a category of membership called Associate Membership, to more easily allow a potential Rotarian to get acquainted with Rotary, our Club, our members, programmes and projects for a period of up to 12 months, without committing to full membership.
Associate Members are encouraged to attend our weekly lunch meetings, and to participate in all activities of the Club including committees (but do not have voting rights)
Associate members do not pay the annual membership fee but are requested to make a modest donation to Rotary’s charity (Rotary Foundation) as all our members do each year.
It's a great way to get to know us more fully, especially if you are very new to the concept of Rotary!
At the end of the 12-month period (or earlier) we hope Associate Members will then decide to apply for full membership of the Club.
Friends of York Rotary
Interested in Rotary but not presently able to commit the time? Then why not consider our other new initiative, Friends of York Rotary?
FoYR was established in 2018, and has over 65 members. There is regular communication with Friends from the Club, and Friends help through volunteering at Rotary events and supporting the Club. There is also a strong networking element to Friends, whose members - many from the charity and social enterprise sectors - get together through the auspices of FoYR.
There is no formal commitment and no membership fee required to belong to FoYR.
More information about FoYR and their activities can be found here.
