On 10th January York Rotary were treated to a great double act presentation by Jackie and Lisa two volunteers of York Street Angels.
In 2009 church groups across York teamed up to launch Street Angels in York with the aim of patrolling the city centre in high viz jackets to make York a safer city.
Each Friday and Saturday nights teams of volunteers head out onto the streets of York until the early hours caring for, practically helping and listening to people , especially those who are vulnerable or effected by drink or drugs. Working along side the emergency services, and door staff they hand out bottled water and flip flops to prevent dehydration and broken ankles. The simple act of helping people get home safely or back to their hotels is very much appreciated.
Clearly Street Angels are now a well established addition to York’s night time guardianship and contribute to making York one of the safest cities in the country and York Rotary are pleased to support them.
