York Rotary have now confirmed a full complement of teams for the York Rotary Dragon Boat Challenge to be held on the 13th July. This year the application process was launched late January and within three weeks we had a full complement of 36 teams plus two reserves. We are delighted to have many returning teams along with 12 new teams competing for the first time.
We are delighted to have all of the teams in place as having 36 teams always makes for an excellent event. The teams have all been advised of their selection and they are preparing for the event. A number of teams have already set up their fundraising pages through Enthuse and we are delighting that fundraising has already started.
The 2025 Dragon Boat Challenge will be the 24th event and so far the event has raised a fantastic total of approximately £1.6m. The 2024 event raised £105,000 so what should the challenge be for 2025, perhaps £110,000 would be realistic?

The Dragon Boat Challenge supports charities, normally around thirty different charities. For 2025 the York Rotary nominated charities who will receive on third of the funds raised are Citizens Advice York and the York Rotary Charity Fund who in turn support a number of local charities.
York Rotary are very grateful to the event sponsors Portakabin, Simpson, and Reed Boardall for their sponsorship. The combination of team entry fees and event sponsorship means that all of the money raised goes to very worthy charities and that is so important.

The Dragon Boat teams will all come together for the team Captains’ briefing on the 13th May when they will learn more about the event. We look forward to welcoming the teams spectators to the Dragon Boat Challenge on the 13th July when we hope that we will have another great days racing in a carnival atmosphere.
